Experience Zaozhuang

A blog mainly built to communicate the experiences I have had living in China for three years. Primarily for entertainment purposes, but also having a loose focus on looking at what it means to be a "foreigner" in China or anywhere, thinking about the subtle pressures minorities face all around the world. Hopefully it can help to celebrate the beauty of diversity, though undoutedly will also serve to vent some of the frustrations one may suffer when living away from their native place.

What?

Today I was riding my bike down the street, and saw a big black cloud of smoking blowing my way from down the road and wondered what ws going on. As I road by I took a closer glance and realized that it was just a couple of ladies hanging out burning a big pile of plastic right in front of their home. Glad I got to take a deep breath of that while I was out riding!

yaffa said...: I know, i know, people are not concerned about environment protection there. I ever found so many cases cuz Zaozhuang is my hometown. Though It is a small town and not rich, Yet i hope you enjoy your life there. Currently, i am a sophomore in Qingdao Uni and here is more cleaner. Useful Vocabulary

Hot boys- n.- Term used to describe any men who pay special attention to their appearance in order to give themselves and those around them the illusion that they are "very cool." Usually, though not always, huge huge assholes.
Mei Guo- n.- Chinese term for the United States, a Mei Guo Ren is an US citizen.
Leaders- n. A hauntingly Orwellian term that is popularly used to describe a vague group of people who are in charge of a school, business, city or country.
Gan bei- n./v.-Chinese word for cheers, but literally means "dry your glass," when you hear it you better be ready to down-in-one. And you hear it alot.
Hello- int.- The word that I hear at least 47 times a day
Children- n.- Small human like creatures who despite their sometimes cute and cheery appearance have become my greatest fear.
Bastard- n.- A confusing word in theory used to insult or rebuke a bad man, yet mostly in practice simply used to describe people don't follow the general pattern of society (note- there are female equivalents to the bastard, yet I don't feel comfortable using those terms, so I stick with my own sex)
Bai jiu- A type of Chinese grain alcohol which has the kick of a cheap whiskey and the flavor of Hangover, mixed with vomit, a swirl of sin all topped with a hint of peach.
